About 4 years ago now we had a simple idea. Travel around Australia with our two sons and enjoy the rich and diverse setting that is unique to our nation. At the time, we planned in minimal detail how our trip would go. The only real step we took towards actually doing anything concrete was to trade in our camper style caravan and purchase a new, larger model that would accomodate 2 adults and 2 children in confined quarters for a period of up to 12 months. We told a few friends that we were planning to travel around Australia. This was met with some amount of enthusiasm. As time went by the question, “When are you leaving?” kept arising. The answers varied depending on what was going on in our lives.
Not long after we started talking about our trip, their was talk of a large pending contract and my business was in a position to benefit from this, so we waited to see what happened. “When are you leaving?” people would ask. “Well, we just bought a block of land in central QLD so we are going to see what happens with that.”
Friends from school were also talking about travelling Australia with their 4 children, and we suggested that we would come with them for a period of time on their travels. As it turned out, we ended up buying the house they were living in, selling the block of land in central QLD, winning the contract and staying right here in Brisbane.
So four years down the track, we still have the house, the contract is completed, the business has been sold, we have a dog, and we now have three children to go travelling with!!!
Let me introduce myself and family….. my name is Ian, I am 37 years old. The party accompanying me on this sojurn, are my wife Jodi also 37, my eldest son Zaac aged 10, my middle son Jacob aged 9 and my newishly arrived daughter Trinity, now 7 months.
So our trip planning and preparation has begun in earnest. Things required are being purchased, broken things are being fixed, surplus things are being removed and we only have 3 weeks to the day to be ready for the trip of a lifetime!
The departure date is set for the 4th or 5th of April depending on whether or not we are ready to go.
